Out last night north of Hudson trolling cranks in 6-14 feet. 3 of us kept 7 real nice crappies, 2 saugs and 2
long eyes. Unreal how many crappies we caught trolling #5 jointed shads. Most that were landed had one treble outside the mouth. Makes me wonder how many fish we lost tearing out of their mouths?? Light color shads worked best.

that crappie bite was phenomonal yesterday. I was catching them on 4″ tubes! Nice big ones too. just a reminder to everyone to re-tie every once in awhile. I fished almost all day with a jig and a ringie. caught some smallies and a couple of sheepies. drifting one last spot before heading in and BANG a big wally nailed my purple ringworm. walked me all around the boat. what a nice tussle until my line broke at the jig. I had it up once and it was above average St Croix size. Always re-tie a couple of times a day and you won’t experience the heartbreak that I did yesterday

    SteveO,

One of my best crappie outings ever was using a 5/8oz. “Rattling Fat Rap”, all white and made by Rebel. 18 fish between 12 and 15″ in about 2 hours. I’ve tried it since and haven’t done as well, but sometimes they like the bigger lures!

    ‘Eyes,
I was catching all I could in 8-12 ft. Sort of a cove area near Stillsville. Me and another guy were drifting it. Great guy. Turned me on to a couple of smallie spots. He was using minnows and lindy rigging. he had a NICE stringer.
I returned mine. still have a bunch of fish from a trip with Dustin on Pepin.

I was also out there yesterday from 11:00 am to 8:30 pm. Tried a little of everything and finally settled on cranks behind snap weights when it was all over. I’m learning how to use these so if there are any experts out there I would appreciate a holler. I just learned how to use lead core last year somewhat, and this is a bit different. I fished from north of the Still Water bridge down to the catfish bar by Afton, hitting most of the popular places in between. The best place was the island by the YMCA camp in 18 to 24 feet of water. Number 7 shad raps in silver and perch color. Most everyone else was using live bait. I did see one boat nail a couple of nice eyes in short order using crawlers and then the bite died. I caught a couple dozen short eyes, 8 legals, and kept a few for the pan. The largest was a 22 incher. I caught fish just about every place that I tried.

Sorry no pics. I was alone without a camera person.

I’m running an older (1991) 17 ft. Smoker Craft Fazer. Dark blue stripes and lettering on a white colored boat with a dark blue Evinrude (1990). I saw those guys out there. One of them you?

Yeah, I was one of them. I was trying to use up 3 gallons of gas in my kicker. I think it’s going to be easier to just dump the premix in the tank a forget about it.

Anyway the saugers were fat! Many 12’s but I did manage to find 3 around 15 inches. Great eating size. I trolled to the “masses” from the south, but never really made it too far. Picked up a couple small eyes, then realize I was to be home 45 minute earlier.

Now I’m grounded…until the rain stops on Thursday.

Give me a yell if you see me out there again. Green Lund Angler SS. Normally I’m sitting in the back set running a bow mount.

I don’t think it is a “secret” spot. Hope they stick around little longer.
