Crappies

Anyone here fishing for them on the Croix? Any luck? i know it’s been sssllllooowww.
I took this year to find a couple other good lakes where I can normally count on a good panfish bite, so I’ve left the Bayport crappies alone. Curious.

I tried the st croix for a little crappie action today. Driving around on the ice was a little difficult, but I was able to make it to my spot. I fished for about 3 hours and iced 4 crappies. Two were 11 inchers and the other two were small. The bonus fish was a 22 inch channel cat. That fish was suspended about 20 feet down and hit a forage minnow jigging spoon. What a blast to catch a good sized channel through the ice. I didn’t really mark a lot of fish, but most of the ones I did see wanted to eat.

That sounds like a good time, nice catches. Did you eat the cat? OUt of the ice cold water that’d be a tasty dinner.
