I have a little fishing pontoon boat that I would like to take out on the St. Croix. I would like to take my three boys (4,6,6) out with me. They have had very little experience in fishing and I want there first on the St Croix to be as good as possible. Does any one have any ideas without giving their secret holes away of where I should try between, say.. Prescott and Hudson. Any other help would be great i’ve only been fishing in Alaska for the last 6 years.

    Thanks,
    Keith

There are two spots in Afton that will produce SOME kind of fish/action. Anchor your pontoon on the WI side of the red boey at the Catfish Bar. (First red bouy after the No wake markers in Afton. Just use a lindy rig with a night crawler.
The second is a little harder to find. Once you enter the No wake zone in Afton, there are three green cans. Anchor 1/2 way between the first two on the south end. No telling what you’ll hook into there either. Anything from nothing to cats, walleye, smallmouth, white bass, northern. Fish with the same tackle as above.

    Good luck!

    Wxwatcher,

I talked with a houseboat on Sunday afternoon parked between the two green cans. One one side of the boat they were fishing and on the otherside they were jumping in the water and swimming. He said all he was catching was sheepies. I think later or earlier in the day would be better and I’m not sure how the cannonballs effect walleyes, but I thought I would let you know!
