Just wondering if anyone can clearly define exactly what a break line is. I realize what a current break is but have never really grasped what a break line appears like on locator. Also any tips on finding them would be greatly appreciated. Gone Fishin!!!

The edge of a flat or hump. A point at which the depth is going to decline and decline rapidly. For example:

You’re heading straightaway from shore and there’s a real slow, loping decline from 0 to 10′. At about 10 or 12′ you see your depth finder just dive to 18, 22,…….30′. The original point of the increasing decline rate, while rounded, marks a “breakline”. It’s where the water’s floor takes a sudden drop.

There can be several breaklines and they can wind all around but they’re easy to navigate with a good LCD graph.

I hope I explained this right!

Good explanation Kid. Now we just have to find some time to get out in a boat and find some of those breaklines and the fish that love em so much. How does next Saturday morning looik for you. I have a great bass lake we can hit and maybe scare up a few bucketmouths. Let me know.
