Thanks for the info Commanch! I was just wondering when the walleye season opens. April 28th sounds good to me!

I doubt WI-DNR got it straight for this year… they never seem to be able to communicate with MN-DNR. I believe the regs for MN is the saturday closest to May 1 while WI’s regs are the first Saturday in May or something like that. I’ll check the DNR website to see if there’s any hint of a change…

Actually King…your selling the WI DNR short…this time. MN agreed to a date for last years opener…then changed it…and didn’t notify the WI DNR…

Stuff happens…we all got to go fishing…and some of us..not me…even caught some!

Hey BK… yeah, maybe I’m being ‘too harsh’ on WI-DNR … what I heard was that MN and WI DNRs got together and agreed that they should have the same regs for the Croix – don’t know what happened but I don’t think either side made any changes yet ? So it is again this year – MN residents open on April 28th and WI residents don’t open until the next week…

The “don’t know part” was that the MN DNR didn’t do what they said they would do…

But in the grand scheme of things…my advice to both DNR’s is… “Can’t we just get along and stop confusing the anglers!”

I thought I read somewhere that the WI DNR had a hearing sometime last year and that they would be changing the Croix opener to coincide with MN’s date… I’ll have to do some research to see if I can find that. Also, I recall that last spring the CO’s only did ‘public education’ stops if you were out early with a WI license (not ticketing – just reminding that WI opened a week later…). This sort of mix-up between border states has to be terribly frustrating to those guys too…

Last year on the opener, I was stopped by Park Rangers. They checked my license(WI) and never said a word. They also never asked to look at the stringer I had out. They were very polite and just said to have a nice time .
