When launching your boat to go fishing in below freezing weather or close to freezing weather, make sure you have a 5 gallon pail of sand in your truck If the launch ramp freezes up the sand helps greatly in providing traction. This sand comes in very handy in situations where you are leaving later in the day and the anglers before you inadvertently drained water from their trailer all over the launch and created a thin layer of ice on the ramp for you to deal with.

Did you need your bucket of sand this weekend?

Great Post! was just thinking of this myself after duck hunting this weekend. I actually mix some gravel and a little salt. The Corps of Eng actually keeps a 55 gallon barrel of the stuff below Yankton on the Missouri at the boat ramp for convenience.

I’ve heard Kitty Litter is great too, never tried it.

the other nice thing to say is…. let your trailer drain at the water’s edge this time of year!

No, I didn’t need the sand this weekend (I was buck hunting in the great state of Wisconsin). Though about twelve years ago, I did…I was in a bit of trouble down at the Stillwater Boomsite landing landing, it was a cold November day after Thanksgiving, when I just had the two wheeler pick up. I had to dig up soil and rocks and whatever to get some traction, it was looking grim – a real sticky situation, Spinnin wheels spinning wheels, I couldn’t get the boat out no matter what I did. I thought maybe I’d have to unhook the trailer or something, and get the boat later. Then finally I figured it out, I just took the fish out of the livewell and put them on shore and the ol’ grumman popped right out of the water.

OK Turk – Your jokes are just a little too subtle. It took me a while to get your point on the last post. So all those “HEAVY” fish were holding you back from getting the boat out of the water.
    I get it!

Ahh I couldn’t resist that joke, it just came to me – But on a side note that’d be a good one for a Red Green skit!!

Red Green. I knew you reminded me of somebody – yes, there is a similarity.
I have to admit it was a good joke –
By the Way – Great Tip too.

Turk, I remember another tip you gave me that I used making an ice pole from a broken long one and there was duck tape included in the mix there Now I missed that Red Green show too but sure was another great tip
