The St. Croix River is kicking out sauger and walleye to anglers fishing jig and minnow, live bait slip rigs, and slow trolling presentation of either a crankbait or a minnow in 20 to 30 fow. The size of the fish is very good and 2-pound fish are common. If you are looking for a fish fry – heat the grease – keepers are to be had. Larger fish (catch and release all over 20”s) are also coming in though at a lesser pace than weeks past, and best caught during low light (contact me about trophy hunts). Water temperatures are slowing dropping, and the clarity is clear for the river. Walleyes are still gorging on shad and saugers appear to take other YOY (young of the year) fish such as freshwater drum, perch, and carp. Sturgeon is closed and was again a very good bite, good season; these big kings can fight harder than any other freshwater fish, plus they go over 30 pounds.

Alrighty then…. Hopefully I can come home with a fish fry on Saturday…

I got zip last night. First time in 3 weeks. I’m not couting the baby smallies and that one
rocky red-eye. That upstream wind was such a painnnnnn. I gave up early and just hit the sauce instead. That’s the problem with the days getting shorter. The opprotunity after work just keeps shrinking.

As always, Turk, excellent report… Looking forward to giving it another ‘go’ this weekend – will be looking for walleye!!!
