Any info that will point me in the right direction for putting a or two sturgeon in the boat on my one open day to fish (Oct. 12) will be much apprieciated.
I am looking for a prefered boat landing? Sturgeon habatat or stuctural preferences?

    Thanks a ton!

I’d look for 30-40 FOW and look for baitfish. You’ll see tons of shad on you sonar and flipping on the surface. When you see shadon the surface and you’re in the 30-40 FOW range, I think you’ll pick up sturgeon. I haven’t caught them near any structure, just cruising around, munching on treats. It’s just a matter of time before one swims past your offering.

Never fished for the critters either. I have been seeing a lot of nice fish posted over the past few weeks though. What kind of rig do you use for those monsters anyway? Is it a basic catfish rig with cutbait or what?

    Yup, that’s what most use.

Hey Savage Tuna – Use your normal channel cat equipment and the same slip sinker rig like you were fishing channels. I use 1 1/2 oz No-Roll with about a 12″ to 18″ leader with a 5/0 Gamakatsu Circle Hook. There is little to no current on the St Croix right now. There is a mix of bait being used – I prefer cut sucker. Nightcrawlers work and some are using shad. Toss it out and relax and wait for the big one to find it.

    Hey thanks you guys.

Where is a good boat landing? I don’t care if there is a fee as long as the wait is short and my rig is safe.

I’m having a Coast Guard Cruiser hold my spot for me on the 14th
