My wife has mentioned she would like to take a trip on the river before I put the boat away for the winter, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me something about the St. Croix near Stillwater. Where is the nearest public landing, and what kind of fishing is available around there? Also, any suggestions on where to try, and what to use (jig & minnow, troll cranks, ). Hopefully, I will be able to take a half-day on Monday, and take her out while the weather is decent.

    Thanks for any help.

Check out some of the posts on this forum for some advice. If you’re new to the St. Croix, I’d swing by Jimmy’s bait on the hill going into Stillwater and ask for advice and pick up bait there. Great guys in there and they want you to have success and come back. They’ll know the best landings to use for the spots that are hot. I haven’t been out enough to lend much more than that.

Actually Jimmys is on your left hand side on hwy 95 going north towards stillwater. Its about a quarter mile before downtown.I would suggest getting a map of the lower St Croix.Trolling and rigging are going good right now, consentrate on the breaklines anywhere from 14 to 30 feet. Also pay attention to your electronics for baitfish, find em and the eyes wont be to far away…hope this helps…..ps.beachouse marina in Bayport has one of the best launches around, but its a pay launch. The only public landing I know of is on the north end of Stillwater.Use cation as it is fairly shallow around that area.
