My buddy and I set it up to out for sturgeon for our 1st time. It started out slow and we were about to move when reeling in it felt heavy then a little fight. Not big but my second one ever 26 inches. Next was Mike with a slam on his rod ended up being 38 inches. Then one more 26 incher with a better fight. Then the only other person stupid enough to be out in this rain was this guy who says “who are you I am Brian” We all know at least who he is! For me it was a blast even though I am cold and numb.

I think I resemble that! Was it raining???
I didn’t want to get any closer to you as I couldn’t see where your lines were…nice (sort of) meeting you two!
You guys did awesome for your first time out under those conditions.
We only landed one 48 incher that gave us a good tussle then went for the back anchor on the other side of the boat.
I had James Holst and IDA’s camera man Sampson Rolen in the boat with me. They were working on some camera angles and testing equipment while I was baiting, casting and sweating to catch a fish…
The idea was to hand James the rod I was holding if there was a bite on it…well..the only good bite we had was the rod in my hand…it felt like a 25 inch walleye slamming a ring worm! He just nailed it…so I figured as long as I didn’t let go of the rod, I might as well reel him in
It was tough keeping the boat steady in the wind and detecting the bites.
September 22, 2006 at 10:47 am #481533That one looks amazingly like the 1 I had with you Wed. night! What did you do Photoshop it?
September 22, 2006 at 11:27 am #481539Chappy…they all look the same!
Actually I did…I took out some water spots that where on the lens.
PS…mine was bigger.
September 22, 2006 at 11:48 am #481541Once I get a chance to edit the size of the photos I’ll post. We had lots of bites but not quite sure what to do. Our big one of the night slammed it hard no trouble detedtng that bite. One I left the spool released once line was going out I figured he ws hooked. Thanks to all for the info we had a blast and love the website it has taught me soo much!

I have a pretty simple theory that works pretty good out there(even with circles).. If you feel something on the end of the line, set the hook. A couple bumps of the line that I am positive is a fish, I am setting.
The only time I get difficulty getting fish is when there is a horde of sheephead around. I would rather miss a fish and lose a bait than catch numbers of sheephead swallowing the hook… or worse yet, and eel with a swallowed hook.
