Thanks dtro! I really wish you were there, I could have used a net.. man
Brian and Chappy gave me a very appreciated hand , and somehow let his video camera run out of something just as I was pulling the fish out of the water. Way to go Brian
The digital camera will be back to the airport around 10 a.m.(dang I miss that camera), then I’ll have to go out and try to get a couple really big fish!
Whisker Hooked kind of stole my personal(emotional) glory with that monster 63″ the other day.. mine was a really big fish, but it just wasnt as exciting with bringing a fish of roughly the same size into the boat a couple days prior. I guess I’ll have to go get an 80″‘er so I can get my knees shaking!
September 22, 2006 at 2:14 am #481463We noticed you taking the photo but really couldn’t tell it was that big from where we were. That thing is beautiful! I wish we would have motored over for a closer look.
Congrats, now it’s my turn I can’t even imagine the fight those must put up. I’ve been dumbfounded by the fights out of the mid-40 inch fish!
September 22, 2006 at 2:43 am #481470Ralph & dtro… you guys should add some current photos!
they dont need to be 5′ long. There have been lots of nice fish caught this year..
September 22, 2006 at 2:51 am #481474Me and a 41″ fish
My buddy and a 48″ fish
Me and a 43″ fish
Still looking for that 50″ fish, but it will come
September 24, 2006 at 9:58 pm #482079Nice fishies guys! Glad to see you’re getting some use out of your new ride Gary!
September 25, 2006 at 1:47 am #482136DTRO I saw you out there today great job. I was out this evening and got none.
September 25, 2006 at 4:21 am #482182I think I saw you leaving Dtro. Looked like you were heading to Beanies?
C15 and I hooked boats together and yaked all night…I haven’t seen Steve for a while and it was nice to catch up!
We ended up with 4 sturgeon, with one around 45 (guess) and one channel about 3 lbs.
We used to spot light to slow one boat (cruiser) down as it was headed between us and another boat.
Knock on wood…no accedents this year.
If your new to the Croix and plan on night fishing…Keep ALL of your lights on and have a spot light to signal boat traffic. I can’t stress this enough. Some of these boats are moving at 70 mph in the dark. Signal early if they are headed anywhere in your direcion!
September 25, 2006 at 3:13 pm #482282We had a good day on the water yesterday. I was out from 9 a.m. with Wastewaterguru (WWG or John) until early in the afternoon. Then returned after I dropped him at the access and picked up another friend for the afternoon bite.
The bite was excellent in the morning and slowed in the mid day with all the cruisers. We were still getting fish reglarly with all the cruisers until the fishing slowed greatly around 4 pm. We only caught around 6 or 7 after 4 pm until sunset.
Our largest landed fish of the day was a 53″ fish caught by WWG, and a 47″ caught by JD(non forum user). I got broke off once well away from the end of my line after a decent fight, and WWG had a hook break on him. We had some big fsh opportunities. I have no idea how many fish were landed, but it was a lot. 7 dozen shad and a couple dozen nightcrawlers was used by the end of the day.
WWG with his 53″
JD with his 47″

September 25, 2006 at 10:13 pm #482502Dtro-The co-worker was just a giggling this morning about that big fish he caught.
I had a good time exept for all the meatheads out there that have no clue how to run a boat.September 26, 2006 at 12:01 am #482528Quote:

It was busy night on the water.
I don’t know what was more funny. Watching a kayaker paddling about the cigarette boats, or Dave having words with the Billionaire Barge
We were laughing about the kayaker too! There were a few boats that in my mind I gave a few choice words. I was in the camo boat along with a couple other rookies we sre still learning. Been talking to fisherdave a little bit. I get out anytime I can I have a great time catching anything even bait. It is great to have this website to learn more every person on this forum I am sure has learned a lot!

Welcome aboard Pops……… we can always use another Big Cat Stick here at IDA……
September 26, 2006 at 11:47 pm #483007The good news is.. the mass majority of the cruisers will be gone soon!
The fish will be biting although its going to be much colder out there soon too.
The *Billionaire Barge* captain seemed to get a little nervous when I made actions to put one of my lines through his window. There is absolutely no justifiable reason why a super ferry(paddle) boat should be within a boat length(my boat) of a persons boat while anchored. It wasnt going very fast, but it shouldnt have been there at all.
The name of the boat was the *Avalon*. If anyone encounters problems with that boat, feel free to contact me for the information how to contact the management directly. They didnt sound happy at all this happened, they appologized, and made a statement that proper actions will be taken.
September 27, 2006 at 1:05 am #483058Castandblast and I were making many comments about a few boats out there. One was the Paddle boat. Glad you said something. The other boat was that big private boat throwing that huge wake not too far from us. Although we don’t like it I am sure they feal that we are just in the way.
Brian thanks for the tip about shinning a light at them in the dark for some reason I did not think of doing that a ways away I didn’t think about the fact that if I wait till I am nervous it would be too late.
September 27, 2006 at 5:14 am #483153Nice fish Dave and WWG!
Outdoors…from our point of veiw, it appeared that they saw us…but didn’t see you…and were heading right toward you…I figured I would rather have you guy pee..oed at me for shining the lights in your eyes than to have to use the light to search for bodys!
What’s wrong with this picture…every post…almost…talks about having a close call…this is not right.

Dave’s not kidding. I bet he could’ve smacked one of the patrons on the deck with the tip of his pole.
And Brian, you are right, there are way too many close calls out there. I took water over my transom on 4 different sets of wakes on sunday.. every time it was boats that are way too big going at max wake speed way too close to our boat.
Not only is it a nuessence(sp?), but it is dangerous. Its dangerous when you are trying to stand up, its dangerous for smaller boats that could get swamped, its dangerous because often times boats come flying around the slower moving boats to make a pass and our anchored craft could be easily sitting in a blind spot as they come around at 50+ mph.
What gets me is every day I see Sherriffs boats on the water, occasionaly coast guard, and also DNR boat from both sides of the river on occasion.. NEVER do you see them saying anything to these people, but I guarantee they would be confronting me in a hurry if my weight accidently put a ding in the hull of any of the $100K+ boats out there.
I am glad its getting cooler outside. Cruisers should not be much of an issue the rest of the season.
September 27, 2006 at 1:52 pm #483211Although there will be less…they are called “cabin crusers” for a reason.
I don’t understand why they don’t get stopped either…I would hate to think it’s what it looks like…money.
October 1, 2006 at 2:02 am #484384Thanks a ton for the reports guys!!!! I have olny been down one other time in the last few weeks but had to go seeing all the nice fish showing up I stuck to cut chubs and we caught a 57″ today. Last time down the biggest was a 43 but I was waiting to shoot some pics of a 50+ We were getting the smaller fish on fatheads last time but cut bait seems to always put a big fish in the boat! This was the fattest one I have ever seen
