Smallmouth Desert

That’s what Little Ferny called the topwater poppers we were using last night. We caught 6…yes 6 largemouth and over 15 smallies all on topwater. Spinnerbaits didn’t even get a bite. They were mostly small frisky bass but we did get a 14″, 15″, 15.5″, and an 18.5″ smallie. Action really picked up in the last hour of daylight. There were some huge schools of minnows and several Quillbacks and Carp around also.

He made a great cast to 2 bass hammering a school of bait and this bruiser hit and never came off the bottom. He got it on his favorite “2 Hook Larry” popper with 1 hook broken off the rear treble.

    Get out there!

    Ferny.

    Great Fish! Nice Report!!

Slipsinker and I hit the St. Croix on Sunday in search of some smallies also. We didn’t have as much luck as him and AlvinMack did on Saturday. We could of used some clouds!!

I did manage to catch a couple smallies, a walleye, a northern, and Slip caught a nice crappie. Slip also lost one of the biggest smallies I have ever seen. He had it all the way to the boat and then of course it came flying out of the water and decided to spit that ringie back out of its mouth. I, the netman, was just out of reach to scoop it out of the mid-air. Sorry Slip!!

I will post a few pics, but they sure won’t measure up to that smallie of yours Ferny

This little guy swam by us. Slip was not happy with him!

Slip, I heard those snakes make good smallie bait.

    Good looking eye too!

Hey? I thought ringworms were for cold water??
