Bass on fire lately?

I haven’t been able to pick up any eyes lately so I have been trying for bass…and it’s been working!
Here’s a few out of the 20 or we had hit last week. We boated about half a dozen the rest chose to release themselves in midflight! They were hitting topwater poppers and spinnerbaits along the rocks. The pics are cropped to protect the “super secret spots”.
We even picked up a largemouth with the smallies. That’s the second one this year??? Pictured is my favorite fishing buddy Tommy.

Smally this time.

Here’s the biggest one, not huge but scrappy fighters!

I was on the Croix Friday and ran into a large school of smallies in the morning. They were surfacing all around us. We switched over to casting cranks into the school and had a flurry of action for a bit. My fishing partner actually had two smallies hit his crank at the same time, although the second fish didn’t stay on too long. It was a blast to get into action like that, though I don’t normally target bass. We did hook up with some nicer eyes covering water and trolling cranks in 18-25 ft of water.

Ferny, I’ve picked up three LM’s this year over 17″. One was 18″!!??
Never caught one out of there before this year.

Largemouth…we picked up 2 this year. I usually get one about every three years or so. I also got a mooneye this year, first ever. I have also noticed weeds where they have never been before??? Hmmm?
