Been out of town for a while… wondering if there are any new reports on fishing the Croix? Has the bite picked up at Catfish or over the flats north of Afton? Preferred bait?

I can’t report for the area north of afton, but between prescott and kinni I’ve been doing alright dragging lead on the transition lines. Firetiger and original have been the best colors for me for the last week or so.

I have also picked up a few bigger fish running real tight next to the rock walls, lots of snags also.

Bass seem to be on a terror on the sand flat south of kinni. Picked many of them up long lining raps, nothing of real great size.

Hey Jami, thanks for the post… I might try pulling three-ways this weekend. I’m also going to try a new rig setup – kind of a cross between a lindy rig, hook-line-sinker, and slip-bobber (using a floating jig). Just something I dreamed up the other day. If it works, I’ll post details later.

Even if it doesn’t work, send out a pict!

I fished on Thursday evening for a couple of hours on the croix. Really couldn’t get anything working. One of those nights when you spill your beverage, step on a rod, catch one fish and have a guy tail piping after that.

I tried pulling a planer board next to the rock wall and one lead core on the outside shelf. Didn’t work all that well for me. Too many snags.

I’ll have to work on perfecting that.

Made it out Saturday a.m. (8:00 til around noon). Didn’t try my crazy rig idea – just pulled some Lindy rigs. Ended up having a great multi-species day! There were three of us in the boat and we caught: a 31+” sturgeon (definitely the best fight of the day!), a huge bluegill, two channel-cats, a couple of sheepies, a 10lbs carp (darn thing really slimed up my carpet), a 22″ eye, a 20″ eye, two 17+” eyes, a 18″ sauger, and three 14″ eyes. The big-boat traffic and the temperature finally increased to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore (and my honey-do list was calling) and we called it a day (or morning). Tried the same spot again last night and only managed to hook up a bunch of sheepies. I think the weekend traffic just pushed the ‘good’ fish out of the area.

Man, was it hot out there this weekend or what???
