A friend wants to float and fish his way downstream from Hinckley on the St Croix. How many miles should he plan a day he has 3 days? He will be fishing along the way. He thinks 40 river miles is possible. I think he should plan 5 a day if he fishing. Opinions?

I’ve done a little of this sort of thing, on the Namekagon and on the Chippewa. 13 miles per day is pretty ambitious if he wants to get any fishing done! I’d go for a longer trip with the option to linger in areas with a hot bite!
I can only go three miles in a good day!
