So does anyone know if the bite shuts off after a good fireworks display similar to what happens after a thunderstorm??

Do not know what you are fishing for, but unless the fireworks are of the nuclear nature barometric pressure should not be effected. Go try it and let us know please. Just a side note, we used to go out during the fireworks and fish with dynamite, only time of the year we could do it and not be in a hurry to collect the fish and bug out. Just kidding! Sorry, in rare form today I guess. LOL. Be safe out there during the fireworks, I know of people being injured when burning fireworks fall into their boats.
July 1, 2006 at 3:25 am #457679LOL Rob! Dupont 80/20 works good, never thought about doing it during the fireworks display though, I now have to rethink things befor tuesday!
July 1, 2006 at 5:03 pm #457715King, I’ve fish the 4th on the Croix for the last two years…south of Hudson…
I’m the only guy down there…fishing! Last year I stayed out past dark in the Afton area…don’t recall what I caught..but it was heck trying to get to the landing after the fireworks…
The weekend of the forth has prove deadly on the Croix the last 2 out of 3 years.
This is truely a time to “watch out for the other guy”!
Take care!
July 3, 2006 at 1:16 pm #457908The family is trying to talk me into launching the boat and scooting up to Stillwater to watch the show… I’m not a big fan of waiting for hours to get back out of the water when the show is over.
I like the idea of heading in the other direction and dropping a few lines into to the water, though. Not too sure how that would go over with the wife and kids .
I’ll probably just make another run to Exit 19, buy more shells and cakes (we’ve already lit up 2 dozen mortars and 6 cakes this weekend), and have a little show in our backyard. This way, I stay close to the fridge (beer and food!), have a campfire, and it only takes a few minutes to get the bed!
July 5, 2006 at 1:20 pm #458179We put the boat in yesterday and headed down to Kinni… did some swimming, boating, tubing, etc. Did manage to wet a few lines on the way back to Hudson, just north of the Kinni beach. Managed a couple of nice sized saugers and the obligate sheepies. Didn’t go to Stillwater for the show but there were a couple of yahoos at the Hudson landing that nearly came to a fist-fight. One guy almost backed right over another guy that had put his trailer in teh water to pull out his boat. A bit too much beer and a bit too much sun, I guess. I was worried I was going to have to smack them both over the head with a wet sauger! I’ve never seen that behaviour with fishermen – only ‘recreational’ boaters!
Anyone go up for the fireworks? How was the show?
July 9, 2006 at 11:41 am #459087Beer and sun will get to the best of us…along with too much boat traffic…
I found myself just south of Redwing watching the “works”. Beautiful night…hidden in a backwater until the boat traffic was gone…about 11:30…Then us catguys “owned the night” again!
