I’m looking to swap information – had great luck the other day during the evening bite for ‘eyes and would ‘share’ in exchange for info on the morning bite. Am heading out early Saturday (wanna be on the water before dawn)…

King, how was the morning bite? I fished sunday morning in the rain. I caught a few sauger and one keeper walleye along with a bunch of smallies. The bass were busting minnows around most of the places I tried for walleyes. The fish wanted both leeches and crawlers.

I didn’t all that well… just a couple of sauger and one walleye (the sauger were pretty big, though – 16″ and 17.5″, the wally I kept was 18″). Most boats were in water deeper than I was working (there were a bunch of boats just south of the bridge – at the drop-off; looked like some were jigging and others were pulling spinner-rigs)… I don’t like to fish in a crowded area so I ended up hitting less-than-stellar areas – it just seems like more of a ‘victory’ when you can pull one out of an area that’s not supposed to hold as many fish. I did have some fun with a few good-sized cats I caught slow-pulling a lindy loaded with a gob of crawlers – they put up a great fight!

King, glad to hear you found some better sauger. Thanks for your report.

Hey King185 – I sent you a PM. I’m interested in your catfish catch from your report.

Hit the night-bite again last night… did so-so (two good sized saugers and a nice walleye). All three were caught pulling a lindy with a fathead – couldn’t buy a bite on either crawlers or leeches (although did have a few crawlers ‘shortened’ just behing the trailer hook after a gentle tug was felt). The saugers (15-20 fow) were a bit deeper than the walleye (10-15 fow) and, based on the feel of the slipweight, the saugers were over sand and the walleye were over rock (as would be expected). All three fish were caught within a pretty tight area. Next time out, I’m going to anchor right over the GPS waypoint I marked and throw out slip-bobbers and try jigging another line.
