Some times there are crappies of the park dock at Osceola. Lighted bobbers after dark works well. Might even pick up a few eyes and other fish there. The park rangers will want you to park in the boat ramp lot after 9pm and then walk back to the point.

Check out Fronconia about 5miles north of Osceola on the mn side. This is a dirt ramp with some shore fishing areas. Try up river from the ramp where the 1st big boulder is. That current break can hold a good mixed bag of fish.

    Good luck.

Spent some time fishing around Franconia saturday morning. It was a good morning for catching a mixed bag of fish. Had my office managers son with and he was impressed with the varity of fish. Crappies, sunnies, channels cats, small mouth, large mouth, rock bass, carp, suckers, walleye, northern, and sheep head. A mixed bag of fishing is what this streach of river is good for. Spent our time between anchoring on spots and letting a couple of live bait rigs sit on bottom while pitching with the others. The live bait rigs took most of the fish. By noon we had work threw our 2 dozen crawlers and a scoop of fatheads.
The crappies where found jigging some of the deeper holes south of Franconia. Plenty of other fish in the bottom of those holes right now also. Found alot of small walleyes vertical jigging up near rock island.
The water is down right now. Keep in mind if you get out that it will be way down in the mornings as they close the dam at night. Watch those props. There are plenty of good sandbars out right now for swimming on also.

Been spending a fair amount of time on and in the water around Franconia and Rock Island the last few weeks. The water is great for keep a person cool and the fishing is not to bad. With alot of the backwaters being close to dried up the fish have seemd to moved into the main channel. Lots of sun fish along the shorelines. Seems to be good numbers of fish in the holes right now also.
Yesterday afternoon we parked the boat on a sand bar just north of rock island. Right off the sand bar was a deeper hole that has held a fair amount of pan fish in the past. My kids got out the siene and caught us some minnows. Then we plopped or butts down in the water, threw out a bobber and ended up catching about a dozen largemouth and smallmouth. Even a few white bass. What a great way to keep cool on a hot day.
Was suprised at catching so many largemouth. Usually only catch a few all summer in that streach of river. There seems to be fair numbers of them hanging around rock island this year. Thinking that the low water has driven them out of the back waters also. This may be why there are so many sunnies on the shoreline right now also. One fish that we have not been catching alot of are the sheephead.

Anyone notice if the fairy boats are still running out of Taylors falls. We havent seen them for some time. Maybe they cant get past the sand bar north of Folsom Island.
