I got a late start on Tuesday evening looking for some channel cats. I only caught 2 fish (no catfish), but I’m so glad I got out.

First fish was a sheepshead: 6.1 pounds on my digital scale!

A short while later something hits my rod and the fight was on! I had no control of this thing, it would make a run where ever it wanted to go bending my 7′ catfish rod all the way down! I thought I lost it when it headed up river and wrapped around my anchor line. Once I got it untangled, bam! Fight was on again for a short time. I thought I had a nice flathead, but was really suprized to see a Sturgeon surface! My tape was too short but it was about 43″ and 16.2 pounds.

My first sturgeon, and my biggest fish ever! A great night to be out, nice weather, stars were out…even a nice shooting star on the way back to the ramp. Thanks for wishing me good luck Comanchero, it helped!

    That was a piggy Sheephead!

Now that you have one sturgeon under your belt…you’ll have to put the Excursion on your calander for next year!

PS Did C15 tell you about his sure fire secret???

Open a bag of twister licorish after you boat your first fish…something about fish flavor and red licorish that has magical powers.

Brian, the Excursion will be on my calander. I just looked back at the posts, and those fish were big compared to my 43″er. Red licorice? Have to try that but it can’t be Twizzlers or anything…has to be ‘Red Vines’ brand.

Jim, thanks for lightening the pictures. I didn’t even think to do that.

One other thing…I think I figured out what the purpose of a beaver is. They look for someone sitting in a boat when it is really dark and quiet…. Dang things sneek up on you…I almost jumped out of the boat! I think I could hear the thing laughing at me!

If someone could come up with a use for sheephead that was worth some money, I know that I would be a very wealthy guy ’cause that’s about all I catch when I’m on the water!

I ended up with two sheepies today that I figured went about 8lbs each Quite a fight on a jiggin rod, and they left plenty of slime in the boat too.
