Got out for a few hours this morning. The water is high, the Hudson launch is closed. Picked up a few walleyes on lindy rigs, with leeches and crawlers. Only the whities liked minnows. My fish came out of shallower water-10/11′.The smallies were quite active in the flooded brush. Best fishing was early, while it was still overcast.

I also spent the day on the Croix on Tuesday. By far the nicest day of the season to be on the water. The sun was hot and the wind was light. Hit the water around 11:15 am and fished until 7:45 pm.

The bite started out on fire. Two short drifts and I boated 1 legal, 3 short Walleye, and a nice smallie. The smallie and two of the Walleye hit very agressive, they just about took the rod out of my hand when they bit.

The bite slowed and I picked up a few more to finish with 4 legals. The interesting catch of the day was a Walleye head. Someone snagged up and broke off in some timber. The Walleye must have taken the bait and remained snagged until it died. The turtles finished the rest of the fish.

One more thing. To the two gentlemen that watched me net a fish and proceded to anchor directly in my drift path. (at the time we were the only boats in the area) It was nice to see you both struggle to find the bite.

Sorry, just needed to vent a little.

Sandbar, you picked a nice day to fish. Catching just the head is funny. Hopefully the weather straightens out for saturday and sunday. No more studying for me till September, so fishing is back to my first priority.

FTA – Glad to hear you’re done with the books until the Sauger bite season. It was a perfect day on the water. I should have had shorts on for the first 3-4 hours. It did rain for about ten minutes around 5:00 pm. The weather looks a little chilly for the weekend.
