    Finally I got my Dad out fishing with me by telling him about the white bass hitting. They were hitting great from shore. We got all but two on Mepps spinners on rocky shore near Stillwater. In less than 1 hour we had plenty for a couple dinners for him and his wife. For a while every cast came back with a fish between 1 and 2 pounds. Lots of fun to catch.

    They’re actually VERY good if you know how to properly clean them.

    The oldtimers that have been coming for 25yrs up to Everts in late April do this;
    Bring a cooler filled with ice.
    When a W Bass is caught the cut through the “throat” just below the juncture of the gills and stick the fish head down in the ice to “bleed” them out.
    When back onshore fillet them as you would a Crappie etc…
    Battered up and deep fried they are very good!

    I talked to my Dad a little while ago and he said they were great and he can’t wait to go get more before the water warms up too much.
