So what decision have we made as residents of WI? Are we fishing April 29th or not?

I’ll have a MN non resident and WI resident license just to make sure there is no problem….

I’ve been told that even if you have a MN non res license and live in WI you must abide by WI laws.

I think it might be safe to say that I may make it back to Hudson just to fish for eyes early. I have both MN and WI licenses too and hope there is no issues….

I heard a CO last year tell a WI resident that he must have a WI license to fish MN-WI boundary waters. You can’t buy the non-res license and then pick and chose what rules to go by. It states in the regs that you must fish with the license of the state in which you reside. This is what makes this so confounding. We’re basically at the mercy of the CO’s doing what they did last year, but with no guarantees.

Cougar is correct. On boundry waters you must possess a license from your resident state. Many people that have fished the Red Wing bite can attest to that. The CO’s practicly have a booth at Everts.

    Qustion?
I am a Illinois resident I buy a nonresident Wi lisence each year. I fish the Pool 4 area and stay in Wisconsin overnight. Can I stay overnight in Minnesota with nonresident Wi. and fish Pool 4? I have always been told thats OK it only matters if you have fish to take home, in Minnesota you abide by their possession limits.

    D Man:

I don’t know exactly but I think you’re ok. It would be similar to fishing in Montana and transporting fish through ND. You would not need to buy a ND license just to possess fish as you were passing through, even if you spent a night in a hotel.

You should call the Minn DMR at 888-646-6367. Ask for enforcement. I know in the past they did issue tickets in that situation. Not sure how it is handled today.
