MN Department of Natural Resources officials said Monday that the St Croix River has dropped to a level at which a speed limit on boat traffic is no longer needed.
A slow, no wake zone, intended to minimize shoreline erosion, had been in effect since April 5.
The restriction, authorized by state rules in Minnesota and Wisconsin, is triggered when the St Croix reaches 683 feet above sea level at Stillwater. Officials said Monday that the river is now at 682.7 feet.
Boaters on the St Croix still should exercise caution because of the high erosion potential and the dangers of floating debris, said Molly Shodeen, area hydrologist for the DNR.
