I’m looking for a Stainless prop for my Merc 90. Has anyone found a good (inexpensive) place to buy one? Maybe I’m in the wrong discussion group.
Also, is a handheld marine radio worth $150 on the St Croix. I’m guessing that you can get weather reports, talk to the marina’s and other boaters (although I’m not sure I want an avenue to convers with some of the cruisers )
I guess I’m trying to justify one over my cell phone.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

PS The walleyes were really snapping last night. 6 all over 20 inches…..then I woke up.

The phone can be very cheap to have by getting a plan that you prepay for your time. That way you are not paying a monthly fee.
You have to be careful tho that if you get in the habit of using it a lot there is a line that you will cross where monthly plans are a better value. I have a phone and I have to tell you that it is nice for the wife to be able to get ahold of me if she needs to. However…………………That could be a downfall to the phone, if you know what I mean.
If you are on the Croix you can just have a list of the numbers for the harbors gas, docks, restaraunts, ect. programed into the phone so that you can contact them when you are out.
    that’s my view.

Call around to the local Prop Repair shops. They often have used props for sale. Try Marks in Forest Lake, I have had good luck dealing with him.

Mostly just chit chat on the radio. You can easily pick up the marine weather station which is handy for keeping watch on the weather. Those summer storms out of the west can catch you off guard because you can’t see them coming. The coast guard does monitor 16 down there. Their antenna is located in Prescott. The handheld transmit range is 3-6 miles.

Thanks Guys! Sounds like I should stick with the phone. The range is greater than 3-6 miles.
I’ll give Marks a call once I find out the size of prop I currantly have. I’m having some ventalation issues with my currant aluminum one.

Chappy, are you the fellow that lives in Hastings the won a Minnkota 12 volt trolling motor a few years back and wanted to sell it? Then when we opened the box, it turned out to be a 24v autopilot? Just wondering, you look familiar.

Nice Picture….it makes me hungry! I had some sunfish from last spring the other night. You could really tell they weren’t fresh, but if you can’t get out…well they were better than chicken!
I may have to go to Sun Prairie and catch me some trout.

My better half made up some Laker that we caught up on Superior last summer. Yum!
I think you will be happy with the phone.

Thanks JonJ! I went to Mark’s yesterday. Not only did he take the time to talk to me about my issues, but he save me about $100 on a ss prop. If it doesn’t work I can take it back. In talking with many prop dealers on line, they wanted $20 plus freight for returns.

I’m very critical in customer service, Mark rates a 9 in my book (If he gave me a prop for free, he would be a 10)

    Thanks again!

Yep, Mark is one of the good guys! He once let me walk out the door with 5 props to try out…no problem!

IF you ever need a skag repaired, he swings a mean tourch too.
