IDA is thrilled to announce the addition of Jimmy’s Bait & Tackle in Stillwater, MN as a sponsor for this forum in specific and website as a whole in general. They will also be supplying fishing reports from the St.Croix River as well as the Eastern Metro Lakes.

The word on these guys at Jimmy’s is that the whole group is VERY customer orientated and willing to share quality info. That makes them our kind of people here at IDA!

So let’s give Jim Newton, owner of Jimmy’s Bait & Tackle, and Brian his right hand man at the shop in Stillwater, a warm welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I feel more confident in deciding to advertise on IDA everyday. We will do everything we can to meet all of your fishing needs. We are hitting the slow business period until mid april should pick up. We will be open and any business until then is greatly appreciated. Look for a SALE to start very soon. If anyone is looking to order any Hi-end stuff like GPS units and such…..please Shop around and find your lowest price. Please call the shop and give us a chance to beat or match it. Even if we make a little it will keep us in business.

Please spread the word and thanks again.

Hey Jimmy, Thanks again for buying the place. I have lived through shutdown periods between owners. It was a real pain to find bait and tackle!

Have you thought of sponsoring a small tourney like the River Rat at Beanies in the fall? Maybe something about $10 in the beginning of the year that locals and families would like to do? I’m sure it would bring in a lot of business. Perhaps even using the city property in front of you on the river? I know there is a big tourney this year but not too many of us are going to pay the big $$ entry fee.

    Thanks,

    Ferny.

I would second that from Ferny, Jimmy’s should have a tourny. I do think though that anglers will pay more in tournys. Yes the River Rat has low entry rates and yes it does get more than a hundred fisherman in the field, but the other 200 to 300 dollar entry fee tournys draw 40 to 60 boats. Either way, I don’t care about the entry fees that much though…

Also this Spring there are four tourneys. We need one in July.
    Croix walleye tournies this spring-
MWT is coming (need to be in the touring field though).
WWA is coming (need to have been a participant last year).
    Hamm Room a local event.
The Clyde’s is a two day event open to locals.

And that’s it until the Beanie River Rat in late September…

I see that two of these are “closed” tournys, but I feel July would be a pretty darn good fit. The baitshop gets good business in the early spring anyhow.

I’m not sure if the Tera Terminal would be a good place to hold it the rip rap there is terribly nasty. Thanks for bringing this up Ferny.

    Keep catchin’

Ferny and Turk! You are two steps ahead of me as always!

I had a call into Jim just for this reason. Since I’m not a tourny type a guy, thanks for your insight Turk.

You guys are always thinking. Thanks Ferny, Turk and Brian. They beat you too it Brian…..
I would be more than happy for the the Bait Shop to put on a tourny. Some of the local folks mentioned this when I first took over. The hard part is to find the time to put things together since I’m working a full time job. I like your idea, Turk, to have it in July when things settle down a little. Is anyone willing to volunteer there time to coordinate this event? They could take charge and work with Mike at the shop. We would need to get the OK from the DNR too and a place to meet for the weight in, a flyer to post etc… Lets keep this one alive. Great idea’s!!!!!
