I drove up to the High Line today. There was 12″ of ice at the High Line. There is about a two foot pressure ridge right at the High Lines that had fresh water at its base so I didn’t try to cross it. I tried to fish this afternoon but the wind kind of got the best of me. I set up my portable and tried to use my truck for a windbreak but after 10 minutes of fishing I gave up. I stepped outside the house for one second and the wind tried to take my house away. It was too much of a hassle to contend with.
There is no snow above Bayport and the ice is smooth as a baby’s butt. I was in 4 wheel drive and even then you have to be super careful. If you want to stop and you have a head of steam you better start braking well ahead of time. My advice is not to go to close to anybody or anything especially if you will need to turn. On that slick ice it takes some getting used to. Once everybody starts driving we are going to see some interesting accidents out there if we don’t get some snow soon.
