I checked the ice at Bayport this afternoon. It looks like some brave souls are fishing. There was one Fish Trap on the ice and tracks from several other people that were ice fishing earlier. Someone has hauled out a permanent house. I cut a couple of spud holes and it looks like about 3 to 4 inches. It is still a little thin for me but it is supposed to be cold again tonight, I plan on giving it a couple of more days and then its time to fish.
Ive been on the ice for two weeks here in northern Wi,Well start walking out on 2 inches but dont try it without someone else with you.Early ice is the best Big fish and no crowds!!!!!!
I’m gona head out this afternoon for some walleyes/saugers and crappie action. The word is there is about 6 inches as of this morning. People are starting to drive 4-wheelers out so the ice is plenty safe. Make sure if you venture off the beaten path to check the ice regularly, because we all know how the river can be unsafe.
