Made it out from 2-6 pm 10/26.
First trip to the Croix since July for me.
I had high hopes with all the good reports I had been hearing, and with the stable weather over the past couple of days.
Surprisingly few boats out for a fairly nice day.
Fished Prescott with 3-ways and stick baits working upriver slowly from docks to upper no wake buoys and across river. one dink sauger. Everyone else I talked to reported slow results.
Went upriver and fished the MN side right below the St. Croix Reg. Park. Marked a lot of fish from 18-28 feet right off bottom. Caught one 19 inch walleye on 3 way and stick bait and a few possible bits on 3way-minnow and that was it. Also tried jig/plastic and blade baits with no bites. Worked the MN shore about a 1/2 mile South of Kinni narrows up to the narrows on 12-20 feet. Once again marking fish consistently (not sure what they were) but no takers.
Water temp 48-50
Couple Questions.
1. How have other folks done in the past few days. Does the bite seem to be gradually tapering off, or was yesterday an anomaly? I am wondering whether to head to Pool 4 this weekend or try the Croix again.
2. There was one boat working the sort of “spine” that goes across river at the St. Croix Regional Park. The boat was there for a long time. Has anybody ever done well in that spot?
Thanks and Good Luck!
