10/06/05 Lower St. Croix River goes way up! The water is rising fast and is expected to rise another four feet. The current feet above sea level is 678.9 The river fish will react to this rising water and will stay on the move. Walleyes, saugers and white bass are hitting in this rising water, which is good news, sometimes a huge jump in the water levels will flatten a bite. Trolling crankbaits, livebait rigging with minnows, and jigging when applicable are producing fish. High winds and water have been putting baitfish shallower than normal and depths from 12 to 22 feet are holding fish. High winds have made jigging difficult as many anglers are anxious and waiting to jig up some walleye in the prime fall time. I didn’t get a water temperature check today but the walleyes and water felt warm, my estimate would be only a few degrees cooler than last weeks report, so I’ll say 60 degrees. Keep Catchin’!
