I got a chance to get out yesterday, we were going to fish pool 2 in st.paul, but changed our minds last minute to go fish this stretch of water, since I’ve never been on the upper part of the St.Croix, so we launched out of franconia, which is pretty darn shallow, but manageable for my littler boat. I tried jig and minnow in some holes we found, I had a nibble or two, but nothing solid. I certainly was marking fish, but no takers. Tired throwing some smaller jigs with no results. We then switched up to trolling , using a jointes shadrap, we picked up 6-7 smallmouth bass biggest proabaly a hair over 1 pound, and one eye that probably went around 11, 11 inches that is but atleast it was some action. First time out there fishing pretty much blind as far a river depths go, sure I had my depth finder running, but most water I was in was around the 4.5 foot mark, a little nerve racking for my first time out, but we made it in and out without any problems, we did however see 2 boats that got hung up on some sand.

Either way it was awesome on the water there, and a great day to be out.

Dont give up Nick . Fishing can be good up there this time of year. The fish seem to start schooling up in some key spots. Either you are on them or are not finding much. There is so much good looking structure on that streach of water also. It takes a few trips to searching threw it a start putting together a good run of spots. Let me know if you have any open days this week. I wouldnt mind getting back up that way myself.

I’d love to get out I’m pretty much free anyday after 12:30 or so, I start midnights on thursday night, so I’d have to leave the access around 7:30pm, which would be about dark anyways, so starting friday I have the option to fish anytime between 6am and 7:30pm, providing I can sleep sometime in there so I’m ready for work.
