I am head up this way over the weekend. Have never fished this area. Looking to find out how much water is up this way and if I will be able to get the Stratos in there. If any one wants to share how the fishing has been it would be appreciated. I will be focusing on smalliies but never against looking at other options.

Where you can get your boat in will depend on how much rain we get this week. Above the dam should be no problem and the better landing I hear up there is at the lions park on the Wis. side.
Below the dam will depend on the rain. There are landings at the state park, franconia and Oseola. I spend most of my time below the dam but then again it is in a jon boat.

Plenty of fish above and below the dam. Above the dam is more like a lake. Below you will be fishing lots of rock, sand and gravel.

Below is very shallow now but we woke up Sat. morning to find a 18′ crestliner near us fishing the deeper hole. If you put in down there dont plan on going to fast or even above trolling speed and just take your time. Jig and crawler and jig and minnow was a good option for us last week.

Thank you! No need for speed this weekend. My thought is to head to the lower side. If you were heading smallie fishin would this be a good decision?

Plenty of small mouth down there. Like I said, lots of rock, gravel and sand. Plenty of trees in the water. points, rock piles. The one thing you wont find much of is weeds. Make sure and check out the openings to the back channels. Early morning in these spots can really produce some fish.

Can you say NO water! We put the boat in for about 5 minutes. They only way to navigate this area is to be in a canoe or john boat. They DNR agent said the river is about 2 to 3 ft low. Not that I shouldn’t have already known that.

We ended up walking the river doing some wading. It was a ton of fun. Felt like I was a Kid again. No boat, no gas, limited equipment, just playing in the water. Fishing was a little slow but we made up for it with number of species. We caught smallies, eyes, northerns, 1 small musky and a copuple snagged rough fish.

Good times had by all. Thanks for the help last week this is truely a great site!
