Spinner Baits!!!!

Can anybody tell me if the best or only way to tie on a spinner bait that doesn’t have the loop on the end of it, is to tie the line directly. I like to use a snap swivel and it is always sliding down to the body of the bait or the spinner blades????? I don’t fish them that often for bass but i do like to catch some bass. Mostly I have the older bigger spinner baits (like the ones for muskies) that had the loop so you could put your snap on that but the newer smaller bass spinner baits don’t have that loop??
    Thanks for your advice.

Hate to say it, but lose the snap swivel and tie yourself a good polymar knot.

I will try that but is a polamar knot that much better than a improved clinch knot???? If So guess i need to tie another knot.
This is a great site and the information is fantastic i really appreciate the advice—- now if i can get on the water and have some fun??

I think a palomar is better with lines that slip like braid, but I read somewhere tests on line strength that had the Trilene knot just as strong with mono.

I use both, but haven’t had any problems with the Trilene knot.

6 to 1, half dozen to the other eh’. Use what you are confident in and can tie the best. No knots work good if you cinch and burn.

are the trilene and polmar knot the same thing???
Any suggestions as to how I can learn to tie all these knots?? A good book or illustrations someplace???

I remember reading a test in one of the major outdoors books that showed palomar as being much stronger than tri knot (also known as clinch knot). I use pal on super lines and any mono over 10 lb. I use tri knot on everything else. I also remember reading the improved clinch was stronger than clinch however I rarily take the extra moment of time to tie it. I’m just use to the reg clinch knot.

    Hey!!!

The best, easiest way is to have a small split ring. Place the split ring over the “loop” and then hook your snap/swivel.

    Works like a charm!!!!

I was going to say the same thing…otherwise small rubber bands like the ones they use on braces for your teeth work great too.
Huh….imagine that Gary….all these bass guys and it takes a couple walleye guys to provide an alternative to tying direct.

Using a snap swivel or just a snap gives you the liberty to change easily and often without have to cut and retie all the time.

    Ya know Buckshot………

I was thinking the same thing………Why didn’t the bass guys think of this!!!!

While this may be true, it often effects the action of the bait in a negative way….

    Don’t forget we use complex lure’s, tactics….

    Slop!

I actually have a “secret” lure. It is a customized spinnerbait that has put every species into the boat, from lg and small mouth, to white bass, to crappie, to walleyes, to pike, to muskies!!!! Of all the species I just mentioned, it has put BIGGUNS into the boat!!!!!

    She never fails me…….

Believe it or not, she only cost $2.50 and with the customizing, add another dollar……….

    Hey slop…
Do you mean complicated like….putting on a spinner bait…cast it out and reel it in???
    OR
Complicated like putting a plastic worm on a hook….cast it out and reel it in??

That does sound complicated…that must explain why there are so many more people fishing bass than walleyes.

There is no loop on the newer spinner baits— but the split ring is a good idea i will try on the bigger spinner baits that i have that do have the loop—– the ones I am talking about do NOT have the loop just a little kink in the wire— thanks

Not sure if i know exactly what you mean but i don’t think i’d trust a spinner bait on the end of my line with just a small elastic rubber band??????? seems to me it you used a rubber band and a snap swivel to that there is lots of room for failure and breakage of the band——-

i think you miss took what was meant with the rubberband. The rubberband wont be what holds you bait to the line. if you put the rubberband on the spinner bait before your snap you have just closed the area you snap to thus making it like the big spinners you use. Hope this helps.

    Good pic Jason.

Also, that is where you can slide the split ring too.

As for the bait……….Well, go to http://www.gophertackle.com

Look for the “hinge twin spin”………..
