I fished close to the Croix last night and found a feeding frenzy on the Miss. Constant action on one spot but size was small. Eventually got a 14 and of course lost what felt like the biggest fish. I saw bass chasing minnows in several locations so I assume the smallie action is on.

I was out catfishing 2 nights this week and there is a lot of activity and a lot of baitfish in the backwaters. The weather has been perfect for topwater action; clear and calm. Water temp is 82 – 84 degrees. You can see fish chasing and smashing the minnows along the banks. There are a lot of white bass but I know the smallies are in that mix too. I chased cats with no luck, I was real tempted to switch up rods and chase the fish.

THERE ARE ARE BASS IN THE ST CROIX!??? NO WAY!!Slop. the fish are going and Im not dock talking ya. they are crashing the minnows pretty good. if you get them going right away in the morning on top water you can come back to the later in the day back out a little deeper and still be on them. the problem I have had is trying to figure out what they want. It seems to key on the size of bait they are chasing that perticular morning. like this morning I threw the whole tackle box at them and coulnt get them to commit I could see them follow and turn around at the boat. finally I switched to a 3″ power minnow and bam I got them. I threw spinner baits, mepps spinners, flukes, tubes, senkos, jerkbaits, dynamite. well not that but it was frusterating. but the moral of the story is they are biting.
    see later Corey

Last Friday a buddy and I fished the lowere Croix. We mostly pitched [plastics to the steep shoreline rocks(I know it is hard to find steep shorleines on the Croix but they are there ). We ended up doing pretty well. We caught a lot of small bass and rockies but ended up with about maybe 15 legals with the biggest being just shy of 17″.

Lenny, I was out there Friday last week too. I thought I saw you sitting on the Wisc. side. You looked up and being the secretive guy you are,you did’nt wave. Maybe you just did’nt want me to come over. I know you know my boat!

I thought that was you going by. I was waiting for you to wave…but alas no wave came. If I had known it was you I would have chased you down. Who’d you have with you. It looked like a boat full.
Seriously, I didn’t want anybody to know I was actually fishing for the green carp. Shh, don’t tell anyone.

    Slop,
I wasn’t out last week but the week prior to that they were going like crazy. I hit a couple of 17″‘s and an 18″. Lots of smaller fish too. I expect it will stay good.
