Hey all. I just thought I would try and share this pic that I got on friday night. Right at dusk I hooked into a 22.5″ Smallie that went 5lbs 3oz. I know you all love pics so I will try to post it. Hope it works. It is back in the croix still swimming so go and get her again. Was a great fish!!

Yes I did scan that pic into the computer. I wish I was a part of the Beanies contest but I don’t launch out of there. I launch out of Andersens. She didn’t put up much of a fight because I was fishing for Muskies/Pike and it took my big muskie bait. It is actually funny. I say her jump so like a little kid I casted over her and pulled it right into it!! I am thinking of doing a replica mount. Does anyone know where there is a good place to get one done?? Thanks for any help.

thats a trophy smally, nice fish. the best spot that i know where you can get a replica is called “Artistic Anglers”. it is located in duluth but i don’t know the number. contacting them might be the hardest part. i had a musky that i caught near the kinny done there about 2 years ago and it is just beautiful. UNREAL!! they did all the fishing hall of fames replicas up in Walker, MN. i heard of the place from jeff arnold the owner of reeds in walker. for the best bang for your buck i’d give em a call!

how much does it cost to get a replica of that size of fish done anyway? is it more than mounting the real thing or about the same? this would be good info. for me to no before i go releasing my state recored i’m going to catch thinking i’ll get a replica but then not have enough $mula$ to have it done

usually a replica is about 10 to 12 dollars an inch depending on the place you get it made.

Hey Jake, Roger Hansen of Bear Paw Taxidermy located in Eyota, Mn does replica mounts for $8 an inch. If you caught a 20″ Smallmouth it would only cost you about $160 to have a replica made that would last you a lifetime. That is pretty cheap when compared to what most of the other taxidermist charge for replicaes. His phone number is 507-545-0139. Every time I am over there he is always working on 10 to 20 fish and other species of wildlife. He does alot of replica mounts for a ton of people all over Minnesota.

    Fishhunter-
I’ll add my congrats. That is a nice smallie! From the photo
background, I take it you caught it close to home. I fish the croix closer to the afton area & await the day I have a big enough fish to post on the forum.

yea, well, that was a nice fish, a 35″ muskie caught on the croix fishing from shore very near where I live, just south of catfish point. The fun part was I decided to go fishing after dinner one Sunday night(2 summers ago) just sort of fooling around to catch a few silver bass. Seems like that muskie was feeding on those same silver bass & I was ended up catching him. Quite a surprize & lots of fun for me. After the photo, the muskie was released & I contemplated how life is sometimes very good!

Seems like we fish some of the same waters. This year I am fishing the afton area & south of it to the kinni. In years past, I have many hours on the waters between Hudson & afton. The strangest fish I ever saw caught on the croix was a gar just south of the Hudson bridge.

This year I caught my fist flathead catfish, while trolling for walleyes. It was hugh (unfortunately no camera). I had not even heard of “flatheads” before catching that fish & didn’t get it properly ID until pursing this website. That fish was released as well & the St. Croix is truly an amazing river. Again, I contemplate how life is sometimes very good! Nice chating with ya.

    Awesome smallie!
Try Lee’s taxidermy and furs in Prescott I had him do a couple skin mounts for me this year. He also can do replica’s. He is next to the railroad bridge not on main st but next to the river.
