I have seen some chatter in the past about lead core. I have seen it in the store and it appears to be rather thick. My question is do you need a special reel to handle it? baitcasing or will it spool onto a spinning reel?

A large capacity bait caster or a line counter that the counter is broke are good choices

Lead core is my least favorite way to fish
Having said that, there are times when it is the best shot. I use Penn 209 reels. They are relitively inexpensive and will hold all of the ten colors{100 yards} of lead core packaged from the factory.

Lead core can come in handy on the Croix. Like the others said large capacity is the key and cheap is all you need.

All my lead core is spooled on Daiwa Sealine SG47LCA reels. They are not that exspensive, about $90. With a couple hundred feet of 10# mono backing, I can put 9 colors on it.
