Last Saturday the Hudson Marina held it’s tenth annual fishing contest. There were division’s for adult’s and children and the contest ran from 8:00 am to noon. The weather didn’t help the participation, the kid’s group had about 15 entered, and 12 in the adults group participated. There was prizes for the largest game fish and a prize for the largest fish, ie. carp, catfish, etc. So…. here comes the best part of the story. We started out cacthing a few smallies and a nice sunfish, nothing very big. Around 9:00 am I landed a smallie that weighed in at 1 lb 13 oz. My son had weighed in one smallie that went 14 oz. Around 11:30 he was getting a little frustrated, I looked over and noticed his bobber gone, he set the hook and landed the largest game fish for the entire contest, a 1 lb 15 oz smallie, it was 18+ inches. We both ended up taking first place in our divisions, father and son slam dunk! We had a great day, I think I have another fishing nut in the family. (golfing nut also…. )

WAY to go Sandbar and little Sandbar!

But remember…a bad day of fishing is better than a good day golfing!

Nice job Sandbar and Jr! Sounds like you have a future pro bass fisherman on your hands. Time to trade in the Crestliner and get a Ranger with a 250 on it.

    Thanks FTA and Brain,
It was great to see him so excited about fishing. He was really pumped when he found out his fish was the winner. Usually skate boarding and golf interested him more than fishing. Later Saturday afternoon he got together with a couple buddies and hit a pond in Woodbury to catch some sunnies, perch, and bullheads. FYI, the crappies were still biting in the marina around the shoreline. We kept 4 nice black crappie and one big sunfish. Grandpa and Grandma Sandbar cooked them up Saturday evening.

P.S. Sandbar Jr. better get a REAL good job to afford the Ranger with the 250.

    Sandbar,
No wonder I haven’t seen you in “the secret spot” (can’t give it away or Suzuki will go nuts) I always thought of you as the Walleye pro has fishing been that slow that you are now chasing crappie? Good job on the tounament.

    See you on the water.

Walleye pro? How much did I owe you for that statement? The “secret spot” has pretty productive this year. Not real big fish, but some good eaters. I took a week off from Walleye fishing and spent some time around the marina catching crappies and smallies. It kind of brought me back to when I was a kid. I tried Walleye fishing Sunday morning from 6:30-11:30. Only a couple smallies, seen one legal boated. When the South wind was blowing me up stream, and a couple waves made it over the bow and into the boat, it was time to hang it up. I did some pleasure boating in the afternoon, headed to Diamond Bluff, bad idea, we got caught in the afternoon storms around 4:30 pm. The worst weather I have been in on the water. See you out there.
