Had some crappie success this weekend around the Hudson marina. Fished Saturday morning from 9:30 to 1:30 pm. Caught 15-20 crappie, all black, kept seven 10-11 inchers for the frying pan, also cleaned a nice 14 inch Sauger. The smallies were also going crazy, my ultra light rig had a pretty good workout. A couple smallies were in the 17+ inch range, all smallies released. We ate the fish Sunday after a great day playing golf.

My son and I searched for some more crappies Monday morning. We fished the same areas around the marina and caught 4-5 nice slabs, a few rock bass, and 7-8 hard fighting smallies. All fish were released.

We used slip bobbers and flu flu jigs. We also tried a plain hook with crappie minnows. Minnows caught the majority of the fish. Monday was a perfect day to be on the Croix.

What a great way to ruin a great meal of fish!

Monday was fantastic for being on the Croix. Although getting off the river presented some challenges.

Eyes between the Afton area and the Kinni were good as long as you put in the time.

You guys are in trouble now, giving out all that specific information. Just kidding. Someones gonna be mad again. Way to go Sandbar and Briank, thanks for the reports. I caught a few nice fish on saturday including a 25-inch walleye on a crawler in 15 feet of water. I tried fishing the more shallow areas in 10-14 feet and found short walleyes there too. Two other better fish I did get were in 6 feet of water also on a crawler. It seems many areas and depths are holding walleyes right now.

Between afton and the kinni is just over 4 miles…two sides of the river makes 8…not to mention I didn’t say they were relating to the shoreline nor did I mention bait!!!….Please don’t include me in this back alley justice system….

PS…I saw all the fishing boats following Turk the other day…It looked like he was throwing minnows to the seagulls they were so thick.

On the other hand, I saw the “griz” going out of an undisclosed landing yesterday. As the “seagulls” started to close in…out came the sawed off shot gun and just a little “griz” glance…and he had the river to himself….

Pss Pm me and I’ll send you gps coordiates.

Briank, that’s hilarious. I truly do appreciate all the info you and others provide! I usually try to report what meager information I can to maybe assist others in this wonderful sport called fishing.

Sorry it took so long for a response. I decided to take a 1/2 day of vacation yesterday. The lawn needed some attention and the truck needed a good washing. Oh yah, just for you Brian, I cleaned my Callaway’s (aka golf clubs) I plan on chasing some of those black slabs after work today.

    Fore!

Sandbar…I’m SOOO glad you told me what a Callaway was…I thought I was going to have to notify the system admin….’cause this is a family site!

Fahc…as you know…this is all in fun (except for sandtraps golf stuff… )

I didn’t get out yesterday. Planning on trying this afternoon. Taking a neighbor and his two kids. We’ll be fishing somewhere between Hudson and Prescott.

    Fore!
