Fished with my father this weekend all day saturday and a few hours sunday morning. Had decent luck with crawlers on both days. The fish are still not biting very agressively. I had to feed the fish line heavily. I never deep hooked a fish this weekend either. Most were hooked right in the tip of the mouths. Caught 20+ short fish on saturday and half a dozen on sunday. 2 legals on saturday and 1 on sunday. I didn’t see too many other legal fish caught either day. Caught a few smallies too. I tried minnows and leeches with very little success. At least lots of small fish now should mean there might be a good population of legal fish in the fall.

I had about the opposite this weekend. Jig and minnow and k-grubs took the honors in my boat. Caught 9 eyes and olny one was under 15 and the biggest was 20. I set a goal to catch a few eyes on plastics and finally made it happen this weekend. I was using a 5 inch k-grub and they were hammering them. A few of them you couldnt see the grub because they had the whole thing in there mouths. Pretty awesome!!! The big difference may be that I was fishing 10fow and less. Caught one in about 3 feet . So to be honest I am glad to hear of a good young year class. Also found a few areas loaded with smallies witch is also good to see. The olny bad news I can report is we olny caught on sheepie while on the way home in the kinni narrows and I was hoping for a good meal

Glad you found some nicer fish Buschman. I would prefer to be casting jigs than live bait rigging. I enjoy pitching jigs on pool 4 but have yet to have success doing the same on the croix. I was wondering this weekend after catching many small fish if the bigger ones were shallow. Thanks for the info.

shallow was a good bet with the water coming up the way it did.

Went out this morning and experienced a good bite in 15-20 fow. Caught some shorts and 1 16″ lindy rigging with both crawlers and leeches. Unfortunately I missed many bites. Came back with half a worm or an empty hook. Think I’ll try jigs next time. Thanks for the info. Gonna learn this river fishing some day.
