The water level isn’t too bad…but if the temp keeps dropping…will be pulling our ice shack out Saturday!

April 29, 2005 at 3:15 am #360179Hi Ilsefish!
I seldom get further up north than the Hudson train bridge. The should be some folks out there that fish the Stillwater area…
Chommancharo15? Where are you?
The only places that I know of…everyone esle knows of too. The NSP power plant just south of Stillwater. There’s some pilings just north of the out let that should hold some fish…jigging…
The Stillwater bridge. I think Jon Jordan posted something about that area.Because the Croix is more like a slow moving lake…anywhere you can find a underwater break could hold fish…Many times I’ll hear someone ask “where are they bitting on the croix” and the answer will be…”everywhere”. That’s really the truth…everywhere there’s a break where the fish can get out of the faster underwater current and still have bait fish come to them.
One of the things I’m going to try…I said try.. is plastics along the rip rap…sounds like bass fishing…but it’s worth a try.
There…I just told you a whole lot a nothing! But it’s the best I can do!
Good luck…and hope to see ya out there!
April 29, 2005 at 5:52 am #360202Took a run from Bayport to Prescott this afternoon and water temp ranged from 52-54 degrees. Didn’t see any floating debris (not to say there’s some floating trees heading downstream).
April 29, 2005 at 1:59 pm #360244Don’t worry new guy. You’ll figure out the river pretty fast. 2-3 years max…..
April 29, 2005 at 4:28 pm #360279I was out yesterday for a couple of hours chasing channel cats upstream. Water temp was 47 degrees and water is dropping. River is at 679 feet, normal pool elevation is 675.5 feet. I had no luck on channels upstream – water is still a little cold. Nice current flow in the backwaters but I did not see much fish activity anywhere. Not as much debris or grass floating in the water as there has been the last few weeks. Should be a pretty good opener for the walleye guys. I don’t spend much time on them – wuusy fish. I prefer cats.
April 29, 2005 at 9:30 pm #360377When you say up river how far up do you mean. we just got back from Osceola and the water is way down. Seemed to more garbage in the water than I would expect at the current levels. And then talk about water temps. Uck. 46 to 47 degrees. Not good. Might be looking at heading down river in the morning. William O brian or maybe even farther south. That would be a first for my boat.
April 29, 2005 at 11:42 pm #360395Mike – I was up past Arcola Sandbar and the Apple River. Plenty of water to run in through the sandbar. I was looking for cats and white bass. Water was too cold for either I think. I usually get into the white bass up in that area but there was no action in the backwaters at all.
April 30, 2005 at 9:14 pm #360475thats too bad Comanchero, I have been looking forward to hitting the croix soon, I drove past the bayport lauch yesterday and the river looked awesome, calm and hardly any boats and no 5 foot swells from those ships lol. Another week or two we should go chase some channels when the water starts to warm up
April 30, 2005 at 10:24 pm #360481Hey Sean – Good to hear from you. I’ll send you a pm. We need to get out – next warm spell should be turning them on.
