I was heading out to see if the boat still floated…and the wife and daughter invited themselves along…a briank family day!
Got down to the launch and yup..still the same…a rig backed kitty corner taking up both launching spaces. As normal, I wasn’t in a hurry…although my daughter was yelling at them from the back seat…(glad I had control of her windows and they were up!) Then before pulling out…they (all 5) unloaded their gear from the truck…
Oh well, same thing, differant year
We putted out to let the motor warm up and watch the coast guard place the channel bouys…I was just going to tell them they had one in the wrong spot when they went back and changed it’s location. I figured they must know how to read gps coordinates
As we left the Afton channel, I noticed that the river seemed very clear of wood ect. I found out later that with the wind, it’s all pushed into coves ect. There is wood out there and I would expect when the wind turns it will be back in the main channel areas…So all you cigar boat boys…make sure your insurance is paid up…
We dragged some cut bait around in Afton with out a nibble, then headed for the kinni. We marked alot of fish at the north end…I’m guessing eyes. We set up shop on the sand break on the east side of the north enterance. Watch a family take videos of their son catching white bass…that was neat… a couple other guys parked their ranger right on the v in the middle of the channel and landed a 40 or so inch sturgeon. She jumped completely out of the water twice…which gave my wife the urge to fish for them…Once I explained the season was open in Sept/Oct…she forgot about it…too cold.
We ended up going home without a nibble. It was a great day to be on the water, realizing what I didn’t pack in the boat…(forgot the knife for the cut bait…and had a he!! of a time getting my wife to bite the heads off the suckers )
Very light crusier hatch during the warmest part of the day. Waters very high, running about 53 degrees…Less than two weeks to opener!
