I went out to the Boomsite launch at noon today to check for open water. The main channel is open from the Stillwater Bridge upstream. South of Stillwater it looked iced in all the way past the NSP Plant. The upstream backwaters are still holding ice. The boat launch is clear of ice and has open water out to the main channel. Water level is low and current reading is 675.9 feet and rising slowly the past 5 days. I’m heading out on a channel cat trip later in the week.

I ran some errands around 11 am today. Looked like someone was trying to get a couple more crappies south of Bayport.

Remember guys and gals…it’s a river and it might be good ice in the morning…but it might not be so good a few hours later. Be safe!

Remember what the Gerneral said to the Sargent when the Generals jeep went through the ice…”No Sargent, YOUR jeep went through the ice”.

Just flew in from Boston today. Croix is open all the way upstream from stillwater. Just south of the NSP plant there is a big patch of open water almost arcoss the whole channel. Iced in until the Swing bridge. It is off an on down to the Kinni. Kinni is open and flowing fast and DIRTY. All water south of the Kinni is really dark brown and everything north is nice and blue from the air. Will not be long now until the whole thing opens!

I was down at the cabin on Saturday (between Kinni and Prescott), still pretty iced up down to Prescott. The shoreline was free of ice, about 50′ feet out. The water is on its way up, it should peak on Wednesday. Hopefully this warm weather and high water will knock down the remaining ice so we can start chasing crappies.

I drove up on saturday from prescott in the boat. You could hardly tell the old sloppy from the croix. The water was 42 degrees in the sippi and 37.5 out of the croix. Fishing was pretty slow on p3.
