Heading out of the fronconia landing again tommorow morning. Fishing has still been going pretty good on this strech of the river if you are just looking to catch fish. Walleyes are still a little slow can be found if you look for them. I Even put a perch in the boat on Wensday. That was a first.
I’ll have a open seat in the boat tommorow if anyone is interested. Drop me a P.M. I should be at the landing at 5 am.
On sunday I’m heading out down by marine on St Croix, but im still not sure where to go down there. Where should i put in at, and wheres the local fishing hole at? At least this will give me a place to start.
Anyone heard any reports from the northern part of the Criox? Someone must be fishing up there. Just looking for a little more variety on this page. I know there is more fish in this river than just down stream.

Thanks Jon. Its good to fish with some new people once and awhile. It is 9 pm and the seat is filled. My buddy from Ecuquador wants to go again. Last saturday was one of the first times he ever had a fishing pole in his hands and he caught about 20 fish that morning. I think he may have ate all of them this week also. Now after eating all those fish he wants to catch some more crappies. It should be a good time on the river again tommorow.
I do think that I,m going to make the 5 am Saturday morning fishing trip a regular thing this year. So I,ll post when I have a nother open seat.
Steve O did you fill your seat for tommorow? I almost took you up on the offer but i need to be home at 12.
I would love to go out on the bigger part of the croix sometime but i think my boat is to small for all the big boats down there. It is a 14′ john boat i bought out of the class. last January. Its been a great boat for the upper part of the Croix, but i got a little intimadated down in Red Wing with it last year. Yes it will take a wave over the side. I did manage to survive some 2′ to 3′ white caps down in south Siant Paul with it last winter. But I,m not going to push my luck with it anymore. Its to nice a boat to send to the bottom.
So if anyone wants to take swap a trip some time let me know. And hopfully this winter I will find a nother nice boat for the bigger boat traffic areas.

    Good luck fishing tommorow.

    Mike,

I did fill my seat and I’m fishing with a guy on Sunday from the board. He’s going to fill me in a little on trolling. You ever want to swap just let me know. I haven’t fished much north of Stillwater. My boat is big enough for the lower part, providing I don’t get run into by one of those big vessels . Invite a friend if you want. I’ve got plenty of room for 3 or 4. I’m running a 1750 Fishawk with a 90. We could try Prescott also. Lots of good shoreline for the small mouthed ones.

Mike , You mentioned fishing the Marine area. I live along that stretch and fish it heavily. My suggestion is this: launch at the Copas landing , go north to the “swing bridge” and try Your luck. The bridge is about a mile and a half up It offers a nice “mixed bag” of Walleyes , Crappies , Silver Bass and even the occassional Muskie! It all depends on the day You’re there. Lately We’ve been seeing some nice Walleye action lingering in the deeper water under the bridge. Try a live bait rig and crawler combo. Good Luck!

I have tried the copas landing a few times with limited results. I would like to get some better info on that part of the river. How about south of copas. I was looking at the hot spots map and see that there is a few deep holes down that way. I did not make it down to that part of the river this past weekend but maybe wensday night Ill try it.
Saturday morning wasnt to bad again. Caught four eyes on the cub foods rattle trap. Anyone else ever pick up any of these. Ive caught many a eye on them. One 17″ on a jig up in taylors falls. The crappies where still biting, but seem to be getting smaller. 9″, 10″ is all there running. I did find some of them in taylers falls also. There seems to be a lot of nice spots up there in the cliffs, but there are a lot of spectators up there. I dont like being the main attraction when Im fishing.
The guys where out Sunday evening down river from fronconia and caught seven walleyes. kept five 17″ers. They have found them under that one log down river, next to the bird in the tree, not to far from the rock with the turtle sitting on it . You know the one. LOL. There are walleyes to be found up here but you must look for them, and if i gave away the little holes they wouldnt be there anymore.
Leadhead give me a pm and we will take my boat out of copas some time. Ill drive, you fish and just tell me where to go. Ill return the favor and give you a tour of the fronconia area some time. Good luck fishing.

there are tons of great holes and current breaks, not to mention sand flats, rocky areas, really deep water and just about anything else in the Osceola to TF area… why it isnt just loaded with quailty fish I cant understand it!….. its usually loaded with little ones though…..

The combo I have found to locating eyes up here is current and wood. With the depth not being as inportant. Sometimes 2′ is all you need. In the fall i will go too a two foot deep log jam on an outside break and catch fish and the head down river to a eight foot break and do the same thing. It still amazes me where i find eyes up here.
The lowlight times of day are always good in the summer also. Then they tend to taper off in the fall.Ive been out many times at sunset when they put there feed bags on for maybe an hour then stop. Just go to the dock in Osceola to check this out. They tend to bite pretty good through the night there.
Leadhead do you fish the wood down in the copas area? do you find the same thing?
I do spend a little time fishing the deep waters also up at rock island. What i find there tends to run a little small. Atleast on some of the smaller holes you can pick out some legals. I am going to try some deeper waters at rock island this summer instead of always jigging the rock edges.
The eyes Im are talking about usually run smaller than twenty inches. There doesnt seem to be many hogs up here. I have only caught a few over twenty. I did get one that went 29″ a few years back. It must of been november, and it was just one.
I still believe there are some decent eyes up here in the summer, and they are diffently here in the fall. It is just a matter of finding them. I think thats the interisting part of fishing. The fun part is going back there and hauling one in after another. Good luck fishing

do you mean that dock in the back water in the park by Osceola? Ive never fished back in there…. but I would guess there might be about anything back in there….. Ive always heard about the BIG crappies….. at least in the fall….

Yep. The T dock at the end of the park. This was one of my main fishing spots before i got a boat. It is the place i got that 29″ walleye also. Can you believe that? Buy a boat, catch no more big fish. At dark the eyes move into the shallows there for a quick bite. Then it will slow down but you will still catch a few after dark, with some small crappies mixed in. If you stay until dark there the park patrol will want you to park your car at the boat landing parking lot and then you will have to walk back down. Sometimes during the week I dont think they close the gate to the park.
This is a nice spot to fish if you dont want to put the boat in.Also just north of the bridge on the MN side there is a at dark walleye bite, but i have never caught any legal fish here. I did catch one huge cat there one night.
Last fall the boy and me where fishing off the dock on friday nights and we always caught a few legals every time we went. Bottom rigs will work there but i thought the lighted bobbers where a lot more fun. You could throw them of the left side of the dock into the current and let them float down river. Then tighten up the line and they would move into the backwater then float up to the right side of the dock and start over.
There is also some good boat fishing in front of there too. Lots of logs on the edge of the channel there. You cant hardly throw into it from shore, but drifting a jig by there from the boat is another storie. Ive only jigged it once so far this year, but I’ll try it more as the summer goes on and diffently will fish it in the fall.

this spring my best bite was the shoreline right across from the boat landing… there are lots of little holes there where a shallow shelf drops into fairly deep water…. just little pockets… but there were fish sitting on the shelves in front of the pockets… my honey picked off a 20″ fish… pretty nice…

Mike , the area south of Copas can be real tough. The fish seem to really be scattered. Mostly it’s the occasional Walleye
or Silver. There are a few Northerns to be found but they run small. The best thing going around Marine would be the smallies. There are lots of long rocky shorelines where smallies seem to congregate. We usually throw Fat Raps or Rattle trap type lures at them. Right now is when they’re starting to get active! Overall the TF area is a much better fishery.

Can anyone tell me where this landing is? Do you get to it from County
    Road 53?
