Lower St. Croix River is warming up to 68 degrees; with the pleasure boats out in full force summer has arrived. Walleye fishing remains average to good with sub legal walleye out numbering the legal 15” walleye. Not all caught fish are running small, solid 18-21 inch eyes are being caught but the voracious 10-12 inch saugers and in numbers, are everywhere in depths from 18-25 feet. Spinner rigs on bottom bouncers or Wolf River rigs have been effective, trolling crankbaits, and Lindy rigging crawlers are catching fish, best depths have been from 18-26. Freshwater drum are thick in the shallows from 5-9 feet on the shorelines. Smallmouth bass fishing continues to be excellent with plastic worms and crankbaits taking most fish; bronze backs are hanging shallow near rock shoreline. If you are crawler fishing bring plenty. Water elevation is 677.2.
