Has anyone been out, or is there fishable ice in Prescott yet? I need a place close that I can run to before and after all the family get togethers this weekend, sanity check.

Might be hard pressed to find “walkable” Ice on the river, Isabels got a good 5-6″ on it. Not sure if thy’re catching anything there yet.
December 21, 2004 at 1:14 pm #332791Jami, I think the Bayport area will have better ice earlier than Prescott. I plan on driving over today to see if there’s any other wackoes out there…and what the thickness is…
I’m almost sure it should be 4 or better…I’m hoping 5-6…’cause I’m chicken pa-toooy
December 21, 2004 at 2:39 pm #332817Brian, thats like the 3rd picture for you in the last week. Someone messing with you again?
Where do you park to get onto the ice in Bayport, never ice fished down there. What species are people targeting there? I may have to drive down by prescott today, see if there is ice and if anyone is on it. If it is froze over I might have to venture out there with the spud tomorrow after work.
chappy, I fished rebecca last week, some parts had 4 inches, the south side behind the fishing pier only had an inch or so on thursday morning. Caught a few crappies, but there were many people out there, so I headed down to north. 4 solid inches on saturday morning. Only mustered one crappie, dang wind was blowing like a madman. So I packed up at 9. Brian, if you see people down there, let me know, I’ll have to venture on down. Thanks
Jami
December 21, 2004 at 3:04 pm #332827There is ice, but there can’t be more than and inch or two. Proceed with Caution.
December 21, 2004 at 4:01 pm #332841Bayport has ice. I talked to a buddy for the bait store. They pulled a perminent out on Saturday to the Ws Side. They figured it was 1000 lbs. This was Satuday they said they had 3-3 1/2 inches. But Saturday night was cold and so was Sunday. If i had to “guess”(not a fact) i waould say there is at least 6” of ice. This is good ice, but proced with caution. I will be out there Thursday morning on the Ws Side, with plenty of because I finally graduated from college. No coments from the peanut gallery, meaning BRIAN K.
See ya in Bayport, fish on.December 21, 2004 at 4:05 pm #332842Ritt,
Bayport on first ice has good jumbo crappies and good sauger action. We park at the bayport park. Take highway 95 north towards Stillwater, when you get into bayport you will see a bar called Woody’s take a right and you’ll see the park. I’ll be there Thursday.
December 21, 2004 at 5:42 pm #332854Congrats on graduating Has. Welcome to the real world. Good luck drinking, I mean fishing.
December 22, 2004 at 4:05 am #332923Since I can’t comment on Eric’s graduations…(ps Congrats )

tootallPosts: 5January 3, 2005 at 3:51 am #334463Welcome to IDA TooTall! (too tall for what? )
I haven’t heard of anything going on down there…have you seen any houses out?
I was in Bayport last night…one other guy out there…with me…it’s a dead sea…I guess we didn’t have any first ice…when the fish were biteing at first ice
Ritt fish’s that way and should respond to you about that area…soon.
Again welcome to IDA!
January 4, 2005 at 7:42 am #334672I drove past prescott on saturday while heading up to Amery. There wasn’t anyone on the ice at that time, or any other time I have ventured down there. I haven’t wet a line down there yet, I’ve spent most of my time in Bayport and North Lake. haven’t had much or success at either place, but in the outdoor news they said bayport is kicking out crappies and saugers in 30+ feet at night. I haven’t experienced that myself yet.
January 6, 2005 at 12:59 pm #335048Since I haven’t seen anyone on the ice past 7pm in Bayport, I asked a very experiance guide about the night bite…it was news to him.
I wish they would start there…It’s an hour up to Lindstrom for me…(time that could be spent fishing)
tootallPosts: 5January 7, 2005 at 1:51 am #335200Thanks for the welcome Brian! I would have responded earlier but had some computer problems. TooTall is an old nickname regarding my height, or lack thereof. I haven’t fished Prescott for a couple of years and most of my friends that live around there have kind of given up on it.
I enjoy the web site and look forward to my ongoing membership.January 7, 2005 at 4:43 am #335238There’s a few members that have good luck either at Prescot or near by…in the soft water time.
Where do you normally fish?
tootallPosts: 5January 8, 2005 at 3:03 am #335453Brian, I haven’t ice fished Prescott recently, but I fish the lower St. Croix from the Kinny to Prescott, Pool 3 around Hastings and Pool 2 around Hidden Falls, during open water season. I get in some trips to Lake of the Woods also.
