Are they moving it again?
Boating restrictions in place again on
Upper St. Croix
Published May 14, 2002
Aiming to slow the migration of zebra mussels,
authorities said Monday that they will prevent boats on
the St. Croix River from traveling north of Stillwater
this year.
Boats and ships carried Asian zebra mussels up the
Mississippi. They have migrated to portions of the
southern St. Croix River said Tom Bradley, St. Croix
National Scenic Riverway superintendent.
Boats can’t go north of a houseboat parked about 3
miles north of Stillwater.
Zebra mussels cover up the native Higgin’s eye mussels.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to establish
protected places, including five on the Mississippi north
of Monticello, to relocate Higgin’s eye mussels.
