Ice Report – Bayport

Just got back from checking the ice in Andersen’s Bay at Bayport. Two good whacks with the ice spud and I was through the ice. 1 1/2″ or 2 at the most. I was just off the beach at Bayport Park. The water at the shoreline just off the beach was covered with dead shad – must have had a significant shad kill right at freeze up. The sturgeon will be in there vacuuming up those dead shad probably going to be another one of those years when you can’t keep them off the hook. I could see dead shad on the bottom out a good ten feet or so – that is a far as I went.

I checked Lily Lake on the way home. I checked just off the launch by the fishing pier. One good whack with the ice spud and I was through. I’m antsy to start fishing but I need a little more ice yet. It is supposed to get cold on Sunday and hopefully that will make us enough ice for fishing.

Shad shad shad, that’s what I posted earlier this week and it looks even more wide spread as C15 said! Again I was in the boat and the clouds were VERY thick. Too thick, but maybe some did die off… I’m sure there are still a few hundred thousand swimming around though.

I checked the landing today – Fery Landing – and there was more than 2″ for sure! And I think there is a good chance for fishable ice Saturday. THAT’S A GUESS go drown on your own terms (no don’t–you know what I mean) but I Think there will be four inches Saturday? I’d say 50 50.

Seeing the Croix almost there for fishable ice, I’d imagine some clearer non stained small lakes will have four inches this weekend! Sharpen those hooks and get the hand auger ready!

    Keep Catchin’

Has anyone been out, or is there fishable ice in Prescott yet? I need a place close that I can run to before and after all the family get togethers this weekend, sanity check.
