After not hardly spending any time the the croix this fall we decided to give it one last try for the year yesterday. After putting the boat in at fronconia we headed for rock island to see if there was any crappies left hanging around. After checking a few spots and pushing some ice around to get at those spots we came up with out even a bite. At the last current seam to try we finnaly did get on some walleyes. Vertical jigging hair jigs, plastics and even a few minnows. Any where from 30 to about 18′ deep.
After a few passes there I was wonder what one of the holes down river might be holding so off we went. It didnt take long for us to find fish in this hole also. And more ice to play bumper boats with. Plastics and hair was going in this hole also.
It was a fun day to get back on that part of the river. I was suprised to see that there was one other boat out also.
Might try to make one more trip over there this week. After that it will most likely freeze over.
We ended up catching about 3 dozen eyes for the after noon. Lots of short fish which is common for the holes on this streach of river but did keep 5 to take home. Good eating.
