Anybody have any guesses at what a 39″ flathead with 24″ girth around the dorsal fin might weigh. I caught one today jigging for walleyes my the ymca camp. I did not have a scale but it felt pretty heavy. Just wondering if anybody might know? This was my heaviest fish I ever caught I think. I caught one 19lbs this spring.

Oh, by the way my father and I caught a few sauger and walleye today to in various spots between bayport and afton. The hudson area south of the 94 bridge was not too hot today. A couple nice slabs were taken up by bayport also.

Hey Fish Them All! Kinda fun for a change!
I like the sound of tight mono singing in the wind…ahhh music to my ears!

I’m going to give you a range…because I’ve seen some flats that have the same lenght weigh 10 lbs differant. Besides, I don’t have any experiance with girth measurements.

    38 to 42 lbs….

I was going to head out that way today…twice and just decided at the last minute to stay dry…I’m hoping Sunday…..

Santa’s going to bring you a disposable camera this year!

Thanks for the reply Brian! That weight sounds good to me. Maybe I’ll have to get a scale and a digital camera. Probably better spend more time my Santa and less fishing in order for her to give me a gift like that. Looks like today might be a good day to fish. Good luck to all. The last two days the all the weather changing was not fun.

Skip the scale…take a picture and ….let’em guess!

This morning on the Croix, as I was looking down river from the I-94 bridge…I said to myself…This looks like a River eye photo!

Glass smooth water (after the fog left) and comfortable air temp!

Bunch of boat in front of Beanies fishing today. I found a limit and then some a little farther south than the crowd.

There was one crazy boater out there with a Crestliner..with the double bubble….buzzing aground the river like a miskeeto…Although if it was who I think it was…he might have been speed trolling….

You had a much better outing than I did yesterday morning. Got out early in the fog, always makes me a little leary, never know who/what is flying down the river not being able to see all that far in front of the boat.
I caught one stinkin sheephead, 3-wayed with jigs most of the morning. Buzzed down to prescott for a little while, lots of boats, not much catching going on.
Oh well, it was a beautiful morning to be out.

    hi Fish,
tho I did not do a girth measurement, in the last couple of years I had one Flathead that was 36 pounds, was 42 inches long, and two that were 40 inches, that were each 30 pounders. I’d say right around 27-28 pounds would be close for yours. super fish. Jack..

I think when the cats get the big the head just gets wider and wider. Which is probably why only and inch or 2 can make such a weight difference like 5 or 6 pounds. If anyone was wondering I did release the fish, even though it tried to take my waterproof glove when I did. I wonder how much a fish like that eats to get bigger and bigger like they do.
