And as normal the bite slowed!

But it was a fantastic night to be on the water with Gene “the lute lover” aka Putz.

Three ways and bottom bouncers have be working great…but we watched a couple guys nail 10 saugers with jigs.

In the picture, Putz was wondering what his fish was going to taste like soaked in lye…but I reminded him that he foul hooked it and by law it had to be returned to the water…after some protest…he agreed (although I didn’t see it go back and you were walking a little funny when you were headed for your truck…. )

I’ve edited the picture so no one would recognize the water that we were fishing…don’t want too many folks taking all of MY fish…don’t ya see…

We did have some tugs….but the saugers really shrunk in size. Smallest I’ve see… one fella I talked with the last two nights had an 18, I’m not sure what Sandbar ended up with for size…but it is time to switch to jigs.

    Thanks again Mr Putz

PS remember to keep my 3 way swivel a secret!

Jeez, Brian, you could have edited out my jowls too as long as you were at it!
But thanks for the great night and for showing me new techniques (2/3rds of a 3 way swivel). Too bad we didn’t have minnows. That’s something I know how to do.
As for the walk, you notice it became much straighter after I hit the satelite on shore. Could it have had something to do with the couple of cold ones in the boat?
For those of you who know Brian, he was the gracious host by letting me use his hot stick and outfishing him (again). We would have probably caught more fish if he wasn’t always backing up to get me out of the rocks though.

Putz…as I tell everyone…a good guide always lets his guest catch more fish…even if they are sheephead….

    Off to find a muskie….

    BrianK,
I was admiring your artistic abilities in the picture of Putz. Don’t quit your day job! Last night we went home with 7 fish between three of us. Two were almost 18″, the other 5 were 15-16 inches. My Dad had a great time “schooling” me, he had 4 in the boat before I finally got lucky and caught 2 towards the end of the nite. As I was told last night, “even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while”. What a great day on the river. The water was as smooth as glass the entire afternoon and evening. I’m looking forward to getting out again soon. Maybe after the rain/snow mix has blown through on Friday.
