Congratulations to the following winners of the Beanie River Rat Tournament of 2004!

Biggest stringer first place: Scott Hale and Kraig Klund 14.65 lbs.
Second place: Mike Johnson and Gus Plummer 11.00

Biggest walleye first place: Wally Robbins 3.9 lbs.
    Second place: Digger Johnson 3.35

Biggest Ugly Fish first place: Tony Plourde 41.1 lbs.
    Second place: Rafael Stoddeck 25

It was a sunny blue sky day, light wind temperature it must have been near 77. Thick fog in the morning that blew off the river at about 9:30. Many anglers reported a tough bite and it was. We personally took 9th and had only one walleye mixed with 5 saugers (just couldn’t get a big one). There were a total of 55 boats in the tourney. Trolling cranks and livebait rigging were the two main presentations, and livebait rigging appeared the best.

Door prizes for ALL plus good food to eat and drink (paid for by tournament entry fee only 20 dollars) and the event raised funds for the St. Croix Valley Youth Service Bureau, it’s a can’t loose deal! Be there next year.

It was a FANTASTIC event and day!

I’ve learned my lesson though. I ended up with a 3 pound channel and a 6.1 flathead, which I release. Had I kept the flat, I would have been in 3 rd place for the biggest ugly…(which you don’t even get honorable mention for). Next year I’ll be taking everything in to be weighed!

The fellow that won the biggest ugly was trolling raps…

I must be doing something wrong!

WHAT! Turk didn’t win. Did somebody get 20 bucks from Brian? Glad everything went well for you guys and gals on such an awesome day. Hopefully this cooler weather starts turning the big ones on and pushing the recreational boaters out. Was there a lot of silvers being caught for those fishing walleyes and sauger?

Yes, I did pay Wally his $20. Next year I promised Turk I wouldn’t Jinx him

The other day I watch some silvers pushing minnow to the top, but I didn’t see or hear of many being caught.
Today the surface water temp was 67 with an air temp of 72. This combination is prime for the BIG cruiser hatch (the boys with the heaters in the pilot house).
